EUROPASINFONIE: the announcement of the selected composers on September 30

Three new works for an orchestra unlike any other. On Wednesday, 30 September, live from Dresden, Europasinfonie will present the three composers selected through the international competition promoted by the twelve European orchestras and choirs partnering in the project, including the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.
The international press conference will take place on Wednesday, 30 September 2026 at 9:00 a.m. CEST, live from the Gartensaal at MESSE DRESDEN, Dresden.

Three composers for Europasinfonie
Who will write the music for Europe’s first remotely connected orchestra? The answer will come on 30 September, when the international jury of Europasinfonie announces the names of the three composers selected and commissioned to create three new works for the project. The international composition competition, jointly promoted by the twelve partner orchestras and choirs, received more than 220 applications from 26 countries. Two of the selected composers will be commissioned to write a work lasting between 15 and 20 minutes for large symphony orchestra, while the third will compose a work for orchestra and choir. At least one of the three composers will be aged 35 or under.
The three selected composers will join the press conference remotely. The event will also provide an opportunity to present the international competition and the next stages of Europasinfonie, followed by a Q&A session for the press.
The selection is entrusted to an international jury chaired by Andrea Molino, composer, conductor and Music Director of Europasinfonie. The jury also includes Elisabetta Villa, Artistic Secretary of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, alongside representatives of the European musical institutions involved in the project.

The selected works will be created specifically for the unique conditions of Europasinfonie. In June 2027, ten orchestras and two choirs from twelve European countries will perform together simultaneously and in real time, forming a single musical ensemble despite being separated by distances of up to 2,200 kilometres.
This collaboration will be made possible by a high-speed pan-European network developed in partnership with GÉANT and the National Research and Education Networks, designed to ensure extremely low transmission latency.
For the composers, this represents an unprecedented artistic challenge: the new scores will have to take into account the geographical distances separating the musicians and the distinctive configuration of the concert itself, transforming the project’s technological and spatial conditions into an integral part of the compositional process.

Europasinfonie was created with the aim of bringing Europe together through music while exploring a new form of orchestral collaboration. In June 2027, the 62 string players of the Dresdner Sinfoniker will perform on stage at MESSE DRESDEN together with conductor Andrea Molino, while the other orchestral and choral sections will perform from their respective countries.
The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano will take part with its flute section, connected in real time with Dresden and with the other European ensembles.
30 September will also hold particular significance for the project: for the first and only time during Europasinfonie, representatives of all the partner orchestras and choirs will gather together in person in Dresden.
Following the announcement, the three selected composers will begin work on their new scores, which will receive their world premieres in June 2027.
