Benedetta Torre

Benedetta Torre, young soprano from Genoa, has been enjoying a flourishing international career for over a decade. Early on, she participated in the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy as Alice in Falstaff and soon after made her debut as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra for the season opening at Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa. Since 2016, she has debuted in national and international theatres taking on roles such as Mimì in La bohème at Ravenna Festival and Teatro del Giglio, Adina in L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Carlo Felice and subsequently in Erl and Glyndebourne, and the High Priestess in Aida at both Salzburg Festival and Arena di Verona under the baton of Riccardo Muti. In 2018, at Festival dei Due Mondi, Spoleto, she performed as Arianna in the opening performance of Silvia Colasanti’s Minotauro and as Marguerite in Honegger’s dramatic oratorio Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher alongside Marion Cotillard as Jeanne d’Arc.

Some of her more recent performances include Mimì at Teatro Comunale, Bologna, directed by Graham Vick; Musetta at Teatro San Carlo directed by Emma Dante; Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at Teatro dell’Opera, Rome, conducted by Daniele Gatti; Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi at Teatro Carlo Felice; Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto at Festival della Valle d’Itria directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi; Adina in L’elisir d’amore at Teatro La Scala; Bettina in Cherubini’s Lo sposo di tre e marito di nessuna at Teatro del Maggio; Micaëla in Carmen at Regio Opera Festival in Turin; 7 Deaths of Maria Callas at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona; Adalgisa in Norma at Opéra national du Rhin and in Puccini’s Trittico at La Monnaie, Brussels.
In the current season, she has already debuted in Nino Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at Teatro Carlo Felice, as Medora in Il Corsaro at Teatro Petruzzelli and Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust at Teatro Massimo, Palermo. In summer 2025 she will sing as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing.
Benedetta is widely recognized as a distinguished interpreter of Mozart, having sung as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro dell’Opera, Rome, directed by Graham Vick, in Strehler’s historic production at La Scala and at Teatro del Maggio under Theodor Guschlbauer. She also performed as Despina in Così fan tutte at Teatro del Maggio under both Zubin Mehta and Ádám Fischer; Rosina in La finta semplice at Teatro Goldoni, Florence; Zerlina in Don Giovanni at Teatro del Maggio and Ilia in Idomeneo at Teatro Carlo Felice. Her Mozart repertoire continues to expand and in 2025 she will sing as Tamiri in Il Re Pastore at Teatro Nazionale, Rome.
In addition to her work in opera, she is also active in chamber and symphonic repertoires performing with Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Riccardo Muti, I Solisti Veneti, Orchestra della Toscana and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under Alain Altinoglu. She recently held the recital Hommage à Fauré and inaugurated the concert season at Teatro Carlo Felice with Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli. In April 2025, she debut in Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Sinfonica di Milano at the Auditorium di Milano under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.

Benedetta takes great pride in her ongoing collaboration with Teatro Carlo Felice, her hometown theatre, which began in 2015 with Maria Boccanegra and has since included roles such as Adina, Lauretta, Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict), Ilia (Idomeneo) and Musetta, along with numerous orchestral engagements. This professional collaboration was also recognized by the City of Genoa, which awarded her the "Talento di Genova" prize in 2023, upon recommendation by tenor Fabio Armiliato.
Benedetta began her piano and voice studies in Genoa, refining her craft under the guidance of soprano Barbara Frittoli. During her training, she was awarded the Youth Prize at the Francesco Paolo Tosti 5th International Competition for Singers in 2012, following which she performed in concerts in Tokyo and Osaka. She took part in the 6th Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition, winning second prize, and the 4th Portofino International Opera Competition, where she won third prize. In 2018 she went on to win the Silver Star award at the Premio Chigiana.
