
Manuel Fuentes was born in 1996 in Crevillent, Alicante (Spain). He studied voice, repertoire and music teaching with tenor José Sempere and has expanded his studies in vocal technique with great singers such as Ana María Sanchez, Mariella Devia, Dolora Zajick, Sonia Ganassi, Carlos Álvarez and Ruggero Raimondi.
This season: Aida at the Opera de Oviedo, Rigoletto and Aida at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, L'heure Espagnole / Gianni Schicchi at the Palau de Les Arts and the Enescu Festival in Bucharest and I Lombardi alla prima crociata at the Teatro Real and Nabucco at the Cap Rocat Festival.
In his artistic history, his successes in several international competitions are worth highlighting. He was proclaimed champion three times in the Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition, winning the First Prize, the Audience Award and the Award for Best Spanish Singer in 2019.
The following year he obtained three awards in the Viñas International Tenor Singing Competition, including the Plácido Domingo Award for Best Spanish Singer, the Castell de Peralada Festival Award and the Fundació Ferrer-Salat Award. He was also the winner of two awards in the first edition of the Alicante International Lyric Competition.
The Castell de Peralada Festival named him Young Artist of the EFA (European Festivals Association) with whom he had the pleasure of performing in a solo recital in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in February 2022.
In 2020 he made his debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid) with the role of Maestro in the zarzuela “Farinelli” by Tomás Bretón.
Furthermore, it should be added that his operatic repertoire is very extensive. He made his debut with the role of Ferrando (Il Trovatore) at the Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a role he also performed months later at the Teatre Principal de Palma. He also performed Sparafucile (Rigoletto) at the Camp de Mart in Tarragona and at the Lanzarote Opera Festival. He sang the role of Colline (La Bohème) at the Oviedo Opera and in Gran Canaria. His career also includes the role of Raimondo Bidebent (Lucia di Lamermoor), which he performed at the Teatro de Córdoba and at the Gala for the 175th anniversary of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, alongside Lisette Oropesa, Ludovic Tézier and Airam Hernández. He has also sung the role of Sam (Un Ballo in Maschera) at the Opera of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Talbot (Maria Stuarda) at the Palau de les Arts, Rodolfo (La Sonnambula) at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Lorenzo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Opéra de Lorraine. He was in Don Giovanni, La fiamme and Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. In the zarzuela repertoire he has performed roles such as Lorenzo Pérez (Doña Francisquita), Bruno Brunovich (Katiuska), Don Juan (El Barberillo de Lavapiés), Atenedoro (La Revoltosa), Roque (Marina) and Fulgen (La Tabernera del Puerto).
He has worked under the direction of -among others- Guillermo García Calvo, Jordi Bernácer, Oliver Díaz, Corrado Rovaris, Marco Armiliato, Karel Mark Chichón, Giacomo Sagripanti, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Giuseppe Finzi, José Miguel Perez-Sierra, Ivan Lopez Reynoso.
