The young Italian tenor Matteo Roma is currently one of the most promising performers in the opera field and is particularly in demand in the Rossini repertoire and in the youth roles of the early Verdi.
In the 2023/24 season, he debuted at the Cologne Opera in the role of Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. At the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, he performed Prunier in Puccini's La Rondine, Zorzeto in Wolf-Ferrari's Il campiello and Ismaele in Nabucco, alongside Plácido Domingo.
Highlights of recent seasons include his performances as Rodolfo in La bohème next Aida Garifullina at the Opera Na Vodi in Belgrade. At the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, he played Arvino in I Lombardi alla prima crociata under the baton of Daniel Oren. He was Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth at the Fondazione Rete Lirica delle Marche and Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opéra de Tours, as well as Leopold in Halévy’s La Juive at the Oper Kiel. With the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liverpool, he sang Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, with Bryn Terfel in the title role, under the baton of Domingo Hindoyan.
In the Rossini repertoire, he has performed the Count of Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at theaters such as the Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna, the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo, and the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo. He was Dorvil in La scala di seta at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. A regular guest artist at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Matteo has appeared as Atlei in Eduardo e Cristina, Count of Libenskof in Il viaggio a Reims, and Aufide in Moïse et Pharaon.
