“
THE HEART OF OUR ORCHESTRA.
THE NEW EARDRUMS, BUT, ABOVE ALL, OUR COMMUNITY
THE NEW EARDRUMS, BUT, ABOVE ALL, OUR COMMUNITY
”
Just as the heart must always beat impeccably, giving life to the entire organism, so the absolute reliability of the timpani is a fundamental condition for the health of a symphony orchestra.
And when the timpani start to be a few years too old, in order to continue to be the “heart” of an orchestra they need to be replaced. For this reason, in June 2024, the Milan Symphony Orchestra launched the fundraising campaign entitled “A Vital Beat – New Timpani for a Sound That Makes Your Heart Beat”.
Result: the heart of the Milan Symphony Orchestra community beats, and beats strong. In just a few months, a record €55,124.52 was reached from 438 donors. Figures that once again attest to the profound added value represented by the cohesive community of the Milan Symphony Orchestra, at the centre of which are its Supporters.
These are the words of Ambra Redaelli, President of the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Choir Foundation of Milan: “For such an important project, for the beating heart of our orchestra and the stage, we have decided to launch an appeal to our great community, and not to turn to a single sponsor of ours, because we wanted our audiences and supporters to feel a little’ protagonists and increasingly proud of their orchestra.”
A circle closes. In June, the campaign “A Vital Beat” featured the open dress rehearsal of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, a prelude to the summer tour of the Milan Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Choir under the guidance of Music Director Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.

Thanks to the great hearts of the 438 donors, today the new timpani arrived at the’ Auditorium in Milan, and are being used for the first time in two productions featuring the new Musical Director in November: the concert on Friday 15th and Sunday 17th November, with Emmanuel Tjeknavorian on the podium for Hector Berlioz's Marcia Rákóczi, the Piano Quartet No. Brahms 1 orchestrated by Arnold Schönberg and Frédéric Chopin's Concerto No. 1, with Kiron Atom Tellian on piano, and the appointment on Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th November, with Daniel Lozakovich soloist in Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto, together with Felix Mendelssohn's Overture The Hebrides and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 6.
Thank you all

NEW INSTRUMENTS, NEW SEASON, NEW ENERGY
Two years ago, our community achieved something extraordinary: raising over €55,000 in just 30 days to provide the Orchestra with a new set of timpani. Today, with the 2026/27 Season approaching, we are aiming for a new goal: to raise €30,000 to renew the Orchestra’s percussion instruments and continue ensuring the artistic excellence of our concerts.
