“Shostakovich BootCamp” campaign 2026 - Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano
Discovering the Fifth Symphony : the challenge of a masterpiece

Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano has renewed its commitment to supporting young musicians and their professional training. The second edition of BootCamp was dedicated to the great Russian composer Dmitry Shostakovich and his famous masterpiece, the Fifth Symphony, a symbol of balance between creativity and political pressure. The work was performed on stage at the Milan Auditorium on  March 13 and 15, 2026   under the direction of Maestro Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
In fact, from 8 to 15 March 2026, eleven young musicians under 26, selected through an audition, took part in an intensive training period at the Milan Auditorium. During their residency, they had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses on Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony with the first parts of Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, follow section rehearsals and rehearsals with the M° Tjeknavorian, and delve into fundamental aspects of a musician's professional life, such as psychophysical well-being, stage anxiety management, communication with the public, and some practical tax elements for freelancers.
In addition to their musical training, participants were able to get to know the neighborhood where the Auditorium is located and the city of Milan, fully experiencing the Orchestra.
    Šostakovič BootCamp involved 11 musicians: 3 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 flute, 1 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone
For the implementation of this project, an extraordinary contribution of 11,000 euros was required.
